Why Drinking a Beer at Lunch Doesn’t Work on a Workday

1) You feel drunker because it's 2:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday
2)
Spontaneous giggling for no particular reason
3) Feeling of terror when the boss says you have to drive everyone back
4)
That work thing

I feel like Keanu Reeves.
It's like I can 'see' the computer language you use to control the Matrix.

work drinking stories... i have a number of them, I work at crazyland afterall; i have bottles of liquor and a mini-fridge sitting 6 feet away from me right now...

story number one: I had to get a new keyboard once because my boss put a G&T on my desk that was so full that in moving it out of the way of my mouse it spilled across my keyboard.

the stories are all from the old days though. the days when 'moonlighting' was being re-enacted at my office, and drinks at lunch were common followed by happy hour back at the office. the bar hasn't been opened up for a long while, except to grab a glass for water on occasion.

One time my buddy Sasha and I went to Hooters at lunch, we split three pitchers of beer and I fell asleep when I went back to work. My cubicle mate had to wake me up when my head was on the keyboard.

I used to live 2 blocks from work in Cinti and Sasha and Iwould go back to my place and split a sixer of high life and watch movies. Then we'd go wander downtown until we could spot a new homeless person.
We called it our three hour lunch break.

story number two: its a friday in august. my boss goes out to lunch. she calls at 2:30, 'what are you doing?'
me: uhhh, working.
her: come meet us. we're at the space room, bring michelle too, but don't let dick know where you're going.
me: okaaay.

michelle and I totally get caught walking out the door, but "we'll be right back" seems to suffice as an answer.

have you had drinks at the space room?! needless to say, I never made it "right back." I was home, passed out by the end of the workday, and hungover at the bbq I attended that night. nice.

okay I'll stop with the stories. the rest are more just beers at lunch, [with my boss, of course] but then having to come back and talk to clients and the owner and get things done, and yet completely have no focus - your list hits everything right on, stef.

True work conversation:

Me: "Hey, I need to talk to you about the new position I've been asked to fill. I'm not sure it's working out."

Him: "Sure. Can you light my bowl?"
